ANLCA President Greets Moslems, Says Customs Agents Contributed N500bn Customs Revenue Despite COVID-19
The President of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, Iju Tony Nwabunike, Friday said that customs agents in the country have been doing the nation proud by contributing as much as N500bn revenue as at June this year as announced by the Nigeria Customs Service.
In a Sallah message to Moslem brothers, Nwabunike said the occasion was for them to “reinforce their faith in the Almighty Allah and strengthen their beliefs in His unseen but felt helping hands at all times”
The ANLCA President reminded Moslems that the sacrifices by Moslems symbolise total obedience to the Creator’s directives and have become acceptable standards as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim who moved to sacrifice his son without querying Allah until an alternative sacrifice was provided.
Nwabunike said the Moslem brothers in the ports industry and other sectors of the economy have contributed in moving the economy forward through revenue generation and helping to sustain employment and keeping the cycle of commerce despite the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.
Part of the message reads: “I warmly greet you all on this year’s occasion of Eid El Kabir celebrations which comes with very symbolic messages capable of reinforcing your faiths in the Almighty Allah and strengthening your beliefs in His unseen but felt helping hands at all times.
“Most of you have shown love for our country and the maritime, aviation, general transport and total logistics industries through selfless commitment to our Importation dependent economy by being out there working as essential service providers even in the face of lockdown in the wake of the Covid19 pandemic.
“You have kept the economy moving, contributing to government revenue, helping to sustain employment and keeping the cycle of commerce moving while abiding by safety precautions as advised by National Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
“As customs brokers and freight forwarders , we contributed immensely to the realisation of over N500b half year revenue collection by Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and ensured goods arrived importers warehouses after exiting our ports through seamless logistics.
“Our professionalism and excellence in the face of logistics constraints like bad roads, suspended rail services for cargo movement, unfriendly and exploitative practices by shipping companies and terminal operators truly stands us out as economic caregivers.
“We have roles to play in helping Nigeria attaining her expected Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 250 Billion US Dollars by the end of 2020. Let’s keep our eyes on the ball.
“While joining the world to celebrate this feast of sacrifice and selfless giving, let’s not lose our guard against the Corona Virus that has altered our global economy, religious orders and social lifestyles .
“Remember to observe the safety guidelines of regular handwashing, frequent usage of hand sanitisers, avoid large gatherings, keep to physical distance rules and wear face masks as recommended by health authorities.
“I join you in this period of celebration and merry making while pleading that we celebrate responsibly.
