10 Pirates Charged to Court for Hijacking Fishing Vessel
Ten suspected pirates were Monday charged to a Federal High Court in Lagos on allegation of hijacking fishing trawler, FV Hai Lu Feng II at Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.
The suspects who were arraigned before Justice Ayokunle Faji include Frank Abaka, Jude Ebaragha, Bright Agbedeyi , Shina Alolo, Joshua Iwiki, David Akinseye, Matthew Masi, Ahmed Toyin, Shobajo Saheed and Adekole Philip.
The vessel belongs to Haina Fishing Company.
The Court was told by the Prosecutor, Laraban Magaji, from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation that the suspects committed the offence in May this year on the international water at Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.
Magaji said the action was a violation of Section 3 of Suppression of Piracy and Other Maritime Offences Act 2019 and punishable under Section 2 of the Act.
The suspects who were remanded in custody had pleaded not guilty with the court adjourning the case till July 15.
