The House of Representatives Tuesday expressed anger over unaudited accounts of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) for the past six years.
Following this discovery, the House Committee on Public Account has summoned the Minister of Industry, Trade and investment, Adeniyi Adebayo, and Director General of SON, Dr. Osita Aboloma to appear before the Committee on the matter.
The Minister, the DG and other management staff, are to appear before the House on Friday after the adoption of a motion raised by by Hon. Fredrick Agbedi.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Wole Oke, made it clear the SON management had in the past refused to honour invitations by the Committee to give accounts between 2014 and 2019.
They were ordered to appear by 11am or the House will be forced to sanction them under relevant laws.
According to him, SON has been holding the Auditor General of SON to ransom by not rendering accounts as expected.
Oke said, “SON has refused to render account and even to appear before the committee for an investigation bordering on non-rendition of account.
“This agency has repeatedly refused to appear before this parliament; we do not believe that SON is bigger than the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or above the law of the land.
“If they have nothing to hide, they should appear and tell us why they have refused to render account to the Auditor General of the Federation.”
