States to Decide When to Reopen Schools, Businesses
As the two week extension on restrictions end today, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) has recommended to President Muhammadu Buhari that states should be allowed to determined when schools, businesses and churches are to open fully for operations.
Lagos, Ogun, FCT Abuja and Kano had been on curfew from 8pm to 6am for weeks now as part of the efforts to check the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
Other states had also banned interstate movement as well as restriction on socio-economic activities to check the spread of the virus.
PTF Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha who spoke to newsmen Sunday after submitting its interim report said it was for the President to decide based on recommendations submitted to him.
But Mustapha made it clear that while a fresh guideline is awaited, the decision on reopening schools, worship centres and business would be left for the states to handle.
He however said this would be if the President approves the recommendations of the Task Force.
Meanwhile, 307 new cases were recorded Sunday, bringing the total to 10,162 with 3007 persons discharged while 287 lost their lives.
