COVID-19: FG Laments Over Carelessness on Part of Nigerians, Rising New Cases

The federal government has expressed concerns about the carelessness on the part of many Nigerians in observing social distancing and other measures taken to check the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
According to the government, this has been shown through the attitude of Nigerians who failed to comply with the guidelines in Lagos, Ogun and FCT Abuja since the decision to ease the lockdown.
The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Mr. Boss Mustapha, said government was not happy about this development, adding that the such basic rules as mask-wearing, physical distance and ban on inter state travel have not been obeyed.
Mustapha said President Muhammadu Buhari was worried about this development particularly as the virus is spreading among Nigerians, including health personnel.
He said government has a result called on states to create more isolation centres to be able to handle increasing cases.
Meanwhile, Nigeria recorded 195 new cases Wednesday in what brought the total to 3,145 case in the country.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in a breakdown said Lagos recorded 82 new cases, Kano 30, Zamfara 19, Sokoto 18, Borno 10, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) nine, Oyo eight, Kebbi and Gombe five each, Ogun four, Katsina three, Kaduna -1, Adamawa – 1.
According to NCDC, “So far, 3,145 confirmed cases of COVID-19 are in Nigeria,” it said, adding: “534 persons have been discharged, while 103 have died.”
