Apapa Port: Shippers Council Brokers Meeting to Revive Evacuation of Cargo by Rail
Apparently worried that evacuation of cargo by rail at Apapa port has been under suspension for sometimes now, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has brokered a meeting between the terminal operator, APM Terminal and the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to address the issue.
The Council in a statement by the Head, Public Relations, Mrs Rakiya Zubairu, said its management team has paid a working visit to APM Terminal on the issue.
According to the statement, during the visit the Council brokered a meeting between Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC)and the terminal on rail evacuation of cargo which has been the temporarily suspended.
The meeting, according to the Council was successful as both parties pledged to abide with the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) already established.
The ports economic regulator also said it will closely monitor developments.
The meeting, the Council explained was mainly to enhance operational efficiency ,and to encourage multimodal approach to cargo evacuation especially within this period of coronavirus pandemic.
NSC management thereafter, in company of Port Health officials, visited the commercial offices of APMT to observe compliance with health and safety protocols issued by the authorities.
