COVID-19: 2020 Budget to be Slashed by 20%

*As Senate President wants stimulus package to get to every state
The Federal government is to slash this year’s budget in capital expenditure among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) by 20 percent as a result ravaging coronavirus.
This move to slash the budget was contained in the proposal sent to the National Assembly by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed.
In the budget cut, 32 items were identified.
This was as the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, urged members of the Presidential Committee on COVID-19 to ensure that all parts of the country benefitted from the intervention initiative.
Speaking with some members during a meeting, he said there was the need for fairness in all the interventions.
According to him, every part of the country should be considered for something whether affected by coronavirus or not.
He noted that already, the Finance Minister had proposed a stimulus package of N500bn, adding that he wished it could even be more than the figure.
But he expressed concern what is in the budget should not be duplicated.
