COVID-19: NIMASA Hands Over Intervention Vessels, Ventilators, Ambulance to Lagos Govt
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Monday handed over two intervention vessels, an ambulance, three ventilators and oxygen concentrators to the federal and Lagos state governments as its contribution to check the ravaging coronavirus.
At a flag off ceremony Monday, the agency also handed over 300 personal protective equipment (PPEs) and cash donation of N20m to the Lagos state government.
The agency had made a promise to provide the items as the coronavirus continued to ravage the country.
At the flag off ceremony, the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, said that apart from Lagos, the agency will also give some of the materials to the six geopolitical zones.
He identified the zones as Anambra in the South East, Maidguguri – North east, Kaduna – North West, Kwara – North Central and the FCT – Abuja.
He also said the agency has concluded arrangements to ensure that Apapa is disinfected from coronavirus by keeping the environment clean.
He explained that the agency donated vessels to coastal states in the country as a display of how much it takes the coastal communities seriously as a maritime regulatory agency.
He added that the interventional vessels will help in movement of patients on the waterways.
The items for Lagos were received by the State Commissioner for Finance, Rabiu Olowo who said the donation will go a long way in supporting and complementing the effort of the state government in the fight against COVID-19.
