Buhari Expresses Shock, Condoles Victims’ Families over Lagos Gas Explosion

*20 Killed, Dozens of Houses, Vehicles Destroyed
President Muhammadu Buhari Sunday night consoled the families of the victims of the gas explosion which occurred in Abule Ado, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
The sad incident had killed no fewer than 20 people.
in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu , the President said he received the news with sadness.
Part of the statement reads, “I have received with sadness the news of this unfortunate incident, which caused loss of lives and property.
“A misfortune of whatever scale anywhere is a tragedy to the country, and while the NNPC makes efforts to determine the cause of the incident, I send my deepest and profound sympathies to the victims, their families, government and people of Lagos State.”
Dozens of houses and vehicles were destroyed by the gas explosion, according to the Acting Coordinator, Lagos Territorial Office, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye.
The incident claimed the lives of a family, including husband, wife and two sons who were going to the church.
No fewer than 16 schoolgirls according to residents died with their Principal.
The girls who are students of the Bethlehem Girls College died with the Headmistress, Rev. Sister Henrietta Alokha and the chaplain, who had represented the Rev. Father for the morning mass.
Another staff of the school, who is described to be school’s kitchen also died.
The Rev. Sister Henrietta Alokha was said to have died while she was struggling to save some of the girls.
It was gathered that about 60 survivors who were rescued due the incident were taken to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital (NNRH) in Navy Town.
The explosion according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) occurred when a truck ran into some gas cylinders stored in a gas processing plant near the corporation’s Pipeline’s Right of Way (RoW).
