Ship Escapes Pirate Attack Off Lagos
An unidentified vessel has escaped attack in Gulf of Guinea, 55 nm South of Lagos.
The incident occurred in the late hours of January 20, according to Fleetmon which reported the account.
The report has it that though the ship’s ID and more information from the incident were not clear, it was gathered that the ship nearest in time and position was a tanker en route to Lagos.
The report said the attack may have been hopefully thwarted, if the tanker was the ship in question.
The ship didn’t stop and reached Lagos anchorage early in the morning of Jan 21.
With the look of things, it seems like it was the same gang which attacked container ship earlier in the month, is running rampant in waters South of Lagos, Maritime First Online further reported..
In another development, an Indonesian tanker HORIZON MARU was boarded by four armed robbers with sharp weapons in the morning Jan 21 in Kabil waters, eastern Batam island, Indonesia, Singapore Strait.
Fleetmon gathered that the crew managed to fight robbers off, and in the process, capture one of the perpetrators. One crew suffered face injury and the captured robber was handed over to police.
Tanker alerted ships in the vicinity and police via VHF Ch.16.
