Four Customs Officers Kidnapped at Checkpoint in Katsina
Four customs officers at checkpoint in Katsina have been abducted by suspected bandits.
The officers who could not be identified as at the time of writing this report were said to have been attacked at Dan-Bedi village along Jibia-Batsari road, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The incident according to eye-witness account took place at about 10 am.
In a report filed by Thisday Newspaper, a resident said seven bandits had arrived the checkpoint on motorcycles and fired gunshots in the air before taking away the officers.
The paper quoted the resident saying, “The bandits on motorcycles arrived the customs checkpoint this morning (yesterday) and seized the officers weapons and shot sporadically to scare residents and kidnapped the officers alongside many motorists who were on their way to Batsari.
“The bandits later went north-east and disappeared into the forest with the officers and the motorists. And other commercial drivers who escaped the attack ran to Jibia town.”
The spokesman of the Katsina State Customs Area Command, Mr. Peter Duniya, who was contacted to confirm the incident said he was on leave.
Bandits have in recent time unleashed terror in some parts of Katsina even with all the efforts to address the issue by the state government.
Few hours ago, a senior lecturer with the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, was murdered in Malumfashi LGA of the state.
On Tuesday, bandits had also attacked a viewing centre where they reportedly killed two people and abducted some others.
