Robbers Attack Maersk MD’s Ikoyi Home, Wife Killed
Armed robbers Sunday night invaded the Lagos Ikoyi residence of the Managing Director of Maerskline, Mr Gidas Tohouo Tohouo where they killed the wife.
Sources said the attack was carried out by an electrician and a friend who were invited to rectify a fault.
The electrician and his friend were said to have attacked the couple, locking them in separate rooms and forcing the wife to transfer some amount of money.
It was gathered that the MD had managed to reach out to the security man who alerted the Police.
The Police on arriving while the operation was going on had surrounded the house and later arrested the culprits.
It was gathered that the wife was suffocated with a pillow which led to her death.
The wife of the MD is said to be from Hungary while the husband is a Cameroonian.
The MD is also said to be critically ill in a hospital in Ikoyi as a result of the attack.
Mr Richard Smith in a statement for Maersk Nigeria confirmed the incident.
The statement reads: “We are very sorry to confirm that a colleague and his family have been attacked in their residence in Lagos, Nigeria during the evening of 8 December 2019. Tragically, the wife of our colleague passed away at the scene. Our colleague is in the hospital, where his condition is critical, but stable. The 3 children are all safe and accounted for.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathy goes to the family. We will do whatever we can to support them in this tragedy,” says David Williams, Regional Managing Director of Africa for A.P. Moller – Maersk.
The relatives of the family are in the process of being notified.
Relevant authorities are investigating the incident. Maersk is supporting the investigation in every possible way”.
