Nigeria Holds Record of Highest Returns on Investment in Africa, Says Finance Minister
The Minister of Finance, Budget & National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, has told the international community that Nigeria holds the record of highest returns on investment in Africa.
Ahmed who spoke on the occasion of the 2019 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group annual meetings in Washington DC said this was despite the economic depression being faced.
The Minister who spoke on behalf of the 23 African countries on what would be their priorities following the current global economic slowdown said that returns on investment as far as African counties were concerned have been very attractive.
The Minister called on the international community to consider investing in Africa where returns on investment can be guaranteed.
She also called on the IMF to come up with specific policies that will take care of high interest rates in different countries.
She was quoted saying, “For the emerging markets and developing economies, we noted the implications of the slowdown of systemic countries like China, India, Brazil, Turkey on the commodity exporters like Nigerian and South Africa among others and we called for strong momentum in structural reforms, well calibrated deployment of fiscal policies to stimulate productivity and the pursuance of tight monetary policies to ensure price stability”.
