Buhari: Calabar Port Dredging Will Start Once Legal Issues Are Settled
*As Obong of Calabar begs for restoration of city
President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday promised that the Calabar port dredging will begin as soon as legal issues on the project are settled.
Speaking when he received the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi, in his office, Buhari also assured of his full support for the Calabar Deep Sea Port project.
Noting that Calabar has lost its status as the first capital city of Southern Nigeria to Lagos, the President promised that his government will ensure good condition of living for the people of the City to make them happy.
He pointed out that the government plans to incorporate the funding of the three road projects – Calabar-Ugep-Ikom-Ogoja; Calabar-Itu-Ikot Ekpene and Sapele-Ewu in the Sukuk Bond to make the completion of the projects faster.
The projects are close to completion.
He also said that some projects, including the Industrial Park set up through the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board are being executed by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

Obong of Calabar in his speech told the President that the Calabar Kingdom despite its national historical significance has been neglected.
He said this was in the area “demotion” in the execution of roads, power, maritime access, security projects and border issues.
He also identified the plight of displaced persons from the Bakassi Islands.
He urged the President to use his powers to restore Calabar to what it lost to Lagos and Abuja.
