Boat Mishap Claims 15 Lives in Niger

No fewer than 15 passengers lost their lives following a boat mishap in River Malale in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The boat was carrying 50 passengers when the incident occurred with 35 passengers surviving.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko Inga told newsmen that the passengers who lost their lives were yet to be accounted for.
He said the boat was heading to Sabon Yunmu in Borgu LGA in Niger State from Warah market in Ngaski LGA of Kebbi State when the accident occurred.
He attributed the accident to poor visibility following heavy rainfall.
Inga disclosed that the boat had hit the trunk of a tree in the river which led to the accident.
He said that divers have been working to recover the bodies of the deceased.
He also said the state government was working to put in place a regulatory framework to check the activities of boat operators.
It would be recalled that so many people had in the past lost their lives in that area as a result of boat accident.
