You Must Find Killers of Fasoranti’s Daughter, N’Assembly Tells Security Chiefs
The National Assembly Tuesday ordered security chiefs to find killers of Mrs. Olufunke Olakunrin who is the daughter of the leader of pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Rueben Fasoranti.
The Senate in plenary which said it will soon convene all-inclusive national summit on security expressed concerns about the rising wave of killings in the country.
It said it will cooperate with the executive in the effort to address the security situation.
Senator Ayo Akinyelure in a motion under Orders 42 and 52 of the Senate Rules drew the attention of the Senateto the security crisis in the country, saying many people including Mrs. Olakunrin had been sent to untimely grave.
Akinyelure pointed that many travelers on Ife-Ilesha-Akure Road, Kaduna-Abuja expressway, Akure-Owo- Ikare- Okene Road, Akure-Ikere Ekiti Road, parts of Edo State and East West road, among other highways no longer feel secured because of the possibility of attacks.
Senator Tolu Odebiyi who seconded the motion was of the view that the Senate cannot sit and watch Nigerians die in the hands of kidnappers and other bandits
The Senate President Ahmad Lawan in his ruling said every part of the country has one story or the other to tell over insecurity.
He said based on the situation it was the duty of the Senate to hold a national summit, while calling on the executive to address the situation as fast as possible.
Lawan said “The executive arm should also be involved because we have to work together to address the situation. The various interventions at the end of the day will bring the desired results.
“Some of our colleagues in their presentations suggested the convocation of a robust security summit on the security situation of the country. The national committee on security will address the situation.”
The House of Representatives had also frowned at the security situation and equally called on the security chiefs to address the issue.
