ANLCA Board: Why I will Serve My Tenure to Fullest, by Henry Njoku
* Says election of new board will start November 2019
*Political weight of Nwabunike responsible for his emergence as President
By Francis Ugwoke
Chairman of the Board of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Chief Henry Njoku, weekend insisted that he will spend his tenure to the fullest notwithstanding the pressure on him to step down.
Reacting to the effect of the board crisis on the association, Njoku simply said it will come and go, adding that it was not the first time.
He recalled that he inherited the association as Board Chairman when there were four ANLCA and managed to reconcile all warring parties.
He explained that his stay in the association as Board Chairman was in keeping with the constitutional provisions.
According to him, changes on the board must follow procedure and on expiration of the tenure of those in office.
He disclosed that his tenure expires in February 2020, but added that the process for another election is supposed to start by November this year.
“I am there as Chairman until February 2020. If anybody wants to remove me, let him tell me how he will do it. When you elect a board, you don’t do another election until their tenure expires. My tenure is six years and will expire February 2020”, he said.
He said that the problem in the Board was instigated by those who lost out in the ANLCA Presidency.
According to him, those whose candidate lost the election were the ones who woke up and decided that he should also be removed for supporting the emergence of the present President of ANLCA, Mr Tony Nwabunike.
He also explained that he supported Nwabunike because he felt that the association having been raised to a high standard needs somebody who has a political weight.
“And if you put Tony, if 20 governors pass here, 15 will call him by his name. So, I give it to him. The association has grown to a level where you need somebody who has political weight to lead it. Tony has it, what happened was that when he got there, within a short time, he went to run for an election, but he is back”.
