There is palpable anxiety as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to announce the results of the presidential election by 11am today.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who briefed stakeholders last night said the collation of the results were ongoing, and assured that the announcement will begin this morning.
The announcement would have started last night but was postponed in what has heightened tension.
Already the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) have criticized the delay by INEC in announcing the results.
PDP had claimed that their candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will be announced the winner of the election.
Meanwhile, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki was defeated in his senatorial zone election by a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe.
Oloriegbe was a former majority leader of APC in the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Similarly, Senator Godswill Akpabio who crossed to the APC August last year also lost his bid to return to the Senate.
He was beaten by a candidate of the PDP in the state.
