FG Kicks as Ghana Deports 723 Nigerians
The Federal Government has protested against the deportation of 723 Nigerians from Ghana between 2018 and this year.
Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Michael Abikoye also protested against inhuman treatment against Nigerians in Ghana.
Abikoye during a meeting with the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, GIS, Kwame Takyi, said the affected Nigerians were deported as a result of illegal stay, cybercrime and prostitution.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 81 Nigerians were asked to leave Ghana on allegation of cybercrime and illegal stay in January, while another 115 were deported on the allegation of prostitution and overstay.
The Nigerian .High Commissioner who complained of inhuman treatment against Nigerians said this will not be accepted by the federal government.
“Although, the GIS had linked prostitution and cybercrimes as some of the reasons for the deportation, it is improper to deport Nigerians for alleged illegal stay in Ghana.
“There are several Ghanaians living in Nigeria and the Nigeria Immigration Service has never deported any of them on the grounds of illegal stay because of the brotherliness between our countries”.
The High Commissioner said that many Nigerians in photo showed how they sustained injuries on their bodies as a result of torture.
The Ghana CG, Takyi, in response said it was forced to take action against affected Nigerians because of their bad conduct.
He said “some Nigerians had become laws in themselves; they block major Ghanaian streets where they drink, fight and stab one another.”
“This unruly behavior which contravenes the local laws in Ghana has led to directives from higher authorities for the arrests and eventual deportation of those who do not have the requisite immigration papers.”
