INEC: We Shall Not Postpone Rivers Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Sunday made it clear that there are no plans to postpone elections in Rivers state.
According to INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Festus Okoye, the elections will be held on schedule on February 16 and March 2.
Okoye made the clarification to newsmen following allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the Commission was contemplating ensuring that the All Progressives Congress (APC) takes part in the general elections in the state.
The Commission said only candidates whose names were published last January 17 and those whose names would be published again on January 31 will participate in the election.
Okoye explained there are no intention to postpone any strands of the election since there are no such conditions for Rivers state.
He added that those who will participate during the election will be those who emerged following processes of valid party primary elections and whose names have been published by INEC.
