Customs Secures Court Order to Destroy 14 Containers of Tramadol
The Federal High Court in Lagos Tuesday gave the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) an order to destroy 14 containers of tramadol.
The Service had approached the Court to seek an order to destroy the drugs which according to the Service were seized from smugglers.
According to the Counsel to the Customs, Mr Bisi Ogunlowo in an ex-parte application, this was because nobody has come to claim the containers since they were seized.
He told the court presided by Justice Saliu Saidu that the smugglers had abandoned the drugs and fled after the customs had stopped them for checks.
The drugs, he said, were seized between January and September this year at Apapa port.
Ogunlowo also explained that a search conducted by court officials showed that no one has any pending case in respect of the seized tramadol.
He urged the court to authorise the Customs to destroy the goods as their importation contravenes sections 167 and 169 (1), Schedule 3 of the Nigeria Customs Services Management Act.
