South East Governors have raised concerns over the politicization of the 2nd Nigeria Bridge by politicians seeking Igbo votes.
The Director General of South East Governors Forum, Prof Simon Ortuanya said that the contract was only signed in July this year despite the fact that the foundation laying ceremony was done in 2013.
Ortuanya appealed to the federal government to be realistic in the project considering the economic importance to the country.
He said “We pray that this will not be another lip service to realisation of the second Niger bridge.”
On the claim by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, that the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu was safe for use, the governors said this was not true.
He added, “that the airport is not safe as there are no runway lights, the tarmac is bumpy with potholes, while one of the buildings destroyed by storm for over two years has become an eyesore. The cargo section of Akanu Ibiam International Airport is not functional.”
